GC5 & Agilent 7890B GC
Compound specific isotope analysis is a fundamental tool for analysing complex oil samples for well profiling as well as analysing δ13C and δ2H isotopes of natural gases to determine their source and maturity. The GC5 offers exceptional sensitivity for low concentration analytes whilst maintaining chromatographic integrity of sample peaks during compound conversion. The robust and long-lasting oxidation conditions in the conversion furnace means that very high molecular weight compounds can be analyzed routinely. As a VAR partner of Agilent Technologies, the GC5 system takes full advantage of the market leading Agilent 7890B GC system to create the highest performance GC-IRMS system for your research.
Identify Compounds with GC-MS
When running complex oil samples, run times can extend up to 2-3 hours with 100's compounds eluting from the GC column. With this complexity, it is very difficult to confidently declare which compounds you are actually analyzing since the molecular structure of the compound is destroyed in the high temperature furnace. By combining an Agilent 5975C MSD with PetrovisION, a single sample injection can be performed resulting in both compound identification and isotope analysis saving large amounts of time through not performing two injections.
Analyse Bulk Isotopes of NSO's
Heavy oils contain large amounts of nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen (as well as other heavy metals) as well as asphaltenes and resins. This makes the oils less amenable to GC analysis and so bulk isotope analysis of these compounds can be useful to characterise the oils. Bulk δ13C and δ2H are also possible for quick screening of oils samples using the vario PYRO cube for high throughput.
Automate Gas Analysis with Isotubes
The use of Isotubes (ISOTECH Laboratories Inc.) to deliver natural gas samples from the well head to the laboratory is becoming increasingly common thanks to the easy shipment and durability of the Isotubes. We can supply PetrovisION with a specialized autosampler from Gerstel allowing for the rapid, fully automated analysis of large numbers of Isotubes, bringing high throughput and lower operating costs.
Perform Water Analysis
Water is commonly used in the drilling process, and the recent advances in hydraulic fracturing have brought scrutiny in to the consumption of water resources for this process. Analysis of oxygen and hydrogen isotopes may be useful for determining the source of waters and distinguishing between pumped surface waters and aquifers. Adding the vario LIQUID sampler to PetrovisION makes this analysis simple and straightforward.
