Elementar’s rapid CS cube delivers industry-leading performance in the analysis of carbon and sulfur, combining unparalleled analytical performance with operational efficiency and automated sample throughput.
Drawing on Elementar’s decades of expertise in CHNS and O analysis, the instrument offers optimized sample handling through the use of pelleting techniques or tin capsules to inject the sample into a high-temperature combustion zone - a fully-automated process common to all of Elementar’s analyzers.
Meanwhile, its fast and sensitive IR-enabled SO2/CO2 determination capabilities have been developed to specifically cater to the requirements of sulfur and carbon analysis, offering precise sensitivity and easy handling when working with coal, soil or waste samples.
These advances mean the rapid CS cube is able to deliver a highly optimized performance, meeting the specific needs of laboratories with impressive efficiency and speed.
The rapid CS cube enables C, S and CS analysis, with IR detection of SO2, for all solid and liquid organic samples, as well as the majority of inorganic samples.
Determination of Cl in combination with C, S and CS is also possible.
Quantitative high-temperature decomposition:
The rapid CS cube functions at a permanent temperature near 1,200 °C, reaching 1,800 °C during combustion. In pure oxygen, the contained sulfur is fully converted into SO2 with 100% recovery, even in the case of BaSO4. Carbon is converted to CO2 and detected by a real non-dispersive IR photometer.
Large dynamic concentration range:
The measuring range is 0-100%, or 20 mg S absolute, with just one IR detector and sensitivity range. The measuring range for carbon is 0-100%, or up to 40 mg absolute. Even concentrations of below 1 ppm or 0.2 µg S can be detected.
Large weighing range:
The instrument’s range encompasses micro (< 1 mg) and macro (1 g) applications, depending on the sample type.
Automated analysis:
The integrated sample magazine can accommodate 60 large samples that can be analyzed fully automatically, even overnight. The maximum number of samples that can be loaded is 120 for solid materials such as coal; liquid samples can be sealed in tin capsules and loaded in the autosampler.
Instrument parameters are PC-controlled via Windows:
The whole instrument is digitally controlled and can be operated also via the internet, with a 21 CFR Part 11 option for date safety.
High sample throughput and minimized analysis costs:
When running unattended, rapid CS cube can analyze up to 120 samples in approximately 10 hours. The cost of analysis is minimal, and a 10-year furnace warranty is included.
Cl detection option:
for upgrading the basic instrument for the determination of chlorine. Combustion of the sample and detection of the formed HCl with electrochemical sensors.
Sample feeder:
In addition to the 60 position plate up to 1g samples, the analyzer can hold up to 120 samples with a maximum of 300mg or 80 samples up to approx. 50mg.
Control and evaluation unit:
A separate Windows-based PC with a monitor, printer and connecting cables, which is required for the operation of the basic unit.
The standard rapid CS cube package contains enough material for 1,000 analyses. An additional consumables set containing all the necessary parts and chemicals for approximately 4,000 analyses - including chemicals, combustion/reduction tubes and instrument-specific wear parts - can also be purchased.
